      Unknown, it is rarely found in humans.

      Clinical significance
      Clinical significance unknown.

      Most isolates from blood, wounds or urinary tract are found in immune compromised individuals.

  • Gram stain

    • Weakly staining, Gram negative, plump coccoid rods,

      appearing in pairs or short chains.

  • Culture characteristics

    • Obligate Aerobic

      BA: growth appears as pinpoint, pale pink, shiny, raised, entire and often mucoid colonies after 2 to 3 days of incubation.

      Looks like Methylobacterium

      Pigment: pink-purple pigment, is better reflected in a Saboureaud and at 25°C.

      McConkey: growth variable

      BBAØ: no growth

      NOTES
      Initial incubation of media should be at 35-37°C, although many of the pink pigmented strains grow better at ≤ 30°C and may be detected on plates left at room temperature after initial readings.

      All identification tests on these isolates should be carried out at 30°C
      (including some of the commercial ID kits)
