Natural habitat
They are found worldwide in the environment, water, soil, on plants, fruits and vegetables.
Because they survive in a moist environment, they can also cause problems in a hospital.
Clinical significance
Is rarely found as a cause of infection.
Are isolated from CF patients.
Still, the pathogenic role in this uncertain.
Short Gram negative rods,
1 to 5 µm in length and 0.5 to 1.0 µm in width.
lying alone, in pairs or short chains.
Obligate Aerobic
Grows slowly in primary isolations (> -72 hours), after 24 hours, very small colon
BA: colonies are smooth, convex, with a circular edge and do not form pigment.
McConkey: growth, non lactose fermenter
BBAØ: no growth
