Natural habitat
Commonly found in soil and water.
Water in the hospital environment is frequently suspected of carrying this organism.
Clinical significance
They are rare clinical isolates and are often not considered pathogenic.
Gram negative rods,
0.5 x 1-2 µm
Obligate Aerobic
BA: various colony types may occur, but most colonies are yellow pigmented and form effuse, spreading colonies that may be confused with the colony morphology of a Bacillus species
The spreading colonies develop a typically fruity smell, similar to the odor of Alcaligenes faecalis.
