Is proven to be an exception in this genus on account of its aerobic growth, microscopic morphology (no branching), and the types and locations of infections.
Taxonomy
Family: Actinomycetaceae,
Genus: Winkia neuii
Formerly: Actinomyces neuii
Natural habitats
They are most likely of endogenous origin.
Clinical significance
Winkia neuii rarely causes disease in humans
They are isolated from soft tissue abscesses, infected skin, endophthalmitis, bacteremias, and endocarditis
Gram positive rods,
diphteroid, but coccobacilli may occur,
the rods are mainly arranged in V or Y forms.
They are not branched
Facultative anaerobic
5 % CO2 improves the growth
BA: colonies are circular, smooth, convex, opaque, more white than creamy in colour, and with entire edges, and 0.5-1.5 mm in diameter after 48h of incubation
BBAØ: growth
